DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
Developmental editing is my passion, and my editing philosophy is simple—how can I help a writer create the best version of their story while also respecting their vision? I disassemble stories, analyze their parts, and propose solutions for what doesn't work. I then compile all this information into an easy-to-read editorial note for the author to use during their revision. There's no better feeling than helping a writer realize their vision.

The first DE note is for an untitled memoir (author name has been redacted for privacy). The second is for an unpublished home repair manual. The final note is for a published video game, as a post-mortem study. A developmental editor's skills aren't solely exclusive to literature, after all!

Copyediting is all about the rules—grammar, spelling, syntax and style. The goal of copyediting is to perfect an author's voice according to these rules. At the same time, the author's individuality and style must be maintained. It's a delicate balance between what language demands, what readers need, and what the writer desires.

Here you'll find an excerpt from my heavy-level copyedit on an academic book about gender bias. I've also included my style sheet and copyediting note (note this particular note was not intended for the author). Below that is an excerpt from a medium-level copyedit on the last novella in a collection of literary fiction.
